Dr. Shyamal Roy Choudhury is no more
One of the founding member of South Asian Association of Physiologists (SAAP) and Vice President of The Physiological society of India passed away on 13th January 2017 at 12:40 AM in Kolkata. Dr. Roy Choudhury was one of the founding members of SAAP and instrumental to prepare SAAP by laws.
Dr. Shyamal Roy Choudhury (born in 1941, did his B.Sc (Physiology Hon) and M.Sc (Physiology) from University College of Sciences (1964). He did his Ph.D from Bose Institute, Kolkata. He retired from Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya, Tamluk, Medinipur. He has been Executive member and Vice President of PSI. Dr. Roy Choudhury was Founding member of SAAP, former Vice President, and currently Adviser, SAAP. He was Executive Editor of Indian Journal of Physiology and Allied Sciences (PSI Journal). He was actively involved in West Bengal Library Association as well as All India Library Association. Presently he was General Secretary of All India Library Association. After his retirement he was engaged as Guest Faculty Member at University College of Science, University of Calcutta, as well as Kalyani University (Department of Physiology).
Dr. Roy Choudhury’s special interest and works in the area of Physiology Education and teaching made him very much endear among the professionals of Physiological Sciences. He was very much close to the hearts of physiologists of SAARC countries as everybody’s ‘Shyamal da‘. He has left behind the only daughter Dr. Shayamoshree Roy Choudhury and Son-in-law Dr. Abhishek Ghosh who reside in Canada.
The President SAAP, Dr. Rita Khadka, Secretary General, Prof. Amar K. Chandra, and all Members of South Asian Association of Physiologists convey their deepest grief and sorrow on Dr. Roy Choudhury’s demise.
