It is the official, registered society of physiologists of Pakistan. It came into existence as a result of the efforts of our peers at Aga Khan Medical College, and University of Karachi. Since then, the Society has been holding its Biennial Conferences all over Pakistan, providing an excellent platform to young researchers for presenting their original research work. Some of these conferences have been attended by foreign scholars too.
Pakistan Physiological Society is publishing its scientific journal, Pakistan Journal of Physiology (PJP) since 2005. It is famous among the physiologists of the region due to the scientific work published in it. The PJP is published quarterly. Pakistan Journal of Physiology, Pak J Physiol, PJP is recognised by HEC in category 'X', and PMDC (IP-034), and is indexed by WHO EMRO, Index Pakistan, Index Copernicus, PakMedinet, and PASTIC, besides several other indexation services. Pakistan Journal of Physiology (PJP) publishes original research papers in all areas of Human & Animal Physiology. All articles published, including editorials, letters and book reviews, represent the opinions of the authors and do not reflect the official policy of Pakistan Journal of Physiology, Pakistan Physiological Society or the institution with which the author is affiliated, unless this is clearly specified. The next Biennial Conference of the PPS (PPS-16) will, In Sha Allah, be held Jointly with 6th Biennial Conference of the SAAP (SAAP-6) at University of Lahore on 13-15 December 2018 (Thursday through Saturday) with Pre-Conference Teaching Workshops on 12 December 2018 (Wednesday).
At the 11th Biennial International Conference of the PPS at Islamabad, the South Asian Association of Physiologists (SAAP) came into being. SAAP has become representative body of the South Asian Physiological Societies and is also holding its Biennial International Conferences.The next Conference (SAPCON-VI) will be held in Pakistan in 2018.
As an effort to promote good research by comparatively young physiologists, some awards have been introduced by various donors. "Professor Alamdar Hussain Award" to Best Paper presented by a young physiologist up to Assistant Professor level, and "Dr. Attique Younas Sheild" to Best Student presenter were first introduced at the 5th Biennial International Conference of the PPS held at Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad. It created a new spirit of competition among the physiologists, teacher and the taught.
Pakistan Physiological Society is an Adhering Body of International Union of Physiological Sciences (IUPS) and is a member of Federation of the Asian and Oceanian Physiological Societies (FAOPS).
